The pernil was juicy with crispy skin, the bistec encebollado was tender and well seasoned, and the tamarind ribs were perfectly balanced with a light sweetness. The alcapurrias and pastelillos tasted homemade, not mass produced. You can tell there is real care behind the food. Everything felt like a true home cooked meal. I was really excited to try this place after seeing so many TikTok reviews, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype. The restaurant itself is small, which I don’t mind, but there was live music playing at an extremely loud volume. It made it difficult to hear our server, and she couldn’t hear us either. By the time our food came out, I had a headache from the volume alone. I’m Puerto Rican and love the music and atmosphere, but the volume really needs to be more reasonable so guests can actually enjoy their experience. The service was just okay. The hostess was friendly, but the wait was about 45 minutes. Our waitress didn’t check in on us after the food was served, which was disappointing because I would’ve mentioned that my chuleta seemed over-fried in old oil, it even had a puddle of oil on it. Music had us dancing on our seats and, no disrespect to Made in Puerto Rico, but your music is way too loud. Both eateries are an experience. Barrio BX is a gem in the Bronx 🇵🇷🔥 I went with my brothers for the first time on a Saturday for lunch, and it did not disappoint.
