A proper, local pub within spitting distance of the Royal Mile, you say? Is there such a thing, or are they all tourist traps? Yes. I give you The Waverley. It was a quiet, rather wet Saturday afternoon, early doors. We decided to sit in (when though there are some tables outside, too), at the bar, and spoke to the most fantastic barman. In fact, he gave us (food and drink) recommendations that were to shape the rest of the evening and following day, during our weekend in Edinburgh. The Waverley is indeed a local pub. A gorgeous and quiet bar with exceptionally kind staff who were happy to walk us through their wine and whisky lists. A great spot to try some local whisky and a nice range of wines, with some great food too. Would really recommend stopping by and asking lots about the menus. We learned a lot about the local distilleries and the history behind various whiskies. The staff were lovely!
