I recently dined at Shamiana in the iconic Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai. The food quality was truly impressive. Each dish was well-prepared, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The overall atmosphere makes it a wonderful place for both relaxed meals and special occasions. However, the service experience was somewhat average and did not entirely match the standards one would expect from a luxury property. While the staff were polite, the food was simply placed on the table once it arrived, and we had to serve ourselves. As a loyal Taj guest who has stayed at the Palace, Lands End, and Vikhroli, all exceptional experiences, my visit to Shamiana for my wife’s birthday was deeply disappointing. It started before I even arrived. I called ahead and was told no reservation was needed, walk-ins were welcome. At the door, I was asked if I had a reservation. That contradiction set the tone for the evening. The crowd inside felt nothing like the Taj experience I’ve come to expect. The carefully curated atmosphere that makes Taj properties special was completely missing. Most telling was the food. 3 out of 5 dishes were below par in terms of taste, which is surprising at Taj and especially on a special occasion. The Taj name commands a premium, and guests pay it expecting a premium experience in return. I’ve stayed at and recommended Taj properties for years because they’ve consistently delivered. We called the restaurant in advance to inquire about reservations and were informed that reservations were not required as they operated on a walk-in basis. However, upon arrival, we were told that a corporate event was taking place and that walk-in guests could not be accommodated. Despite waiting for nearly an hour, no table became available. It was disappointing that this information was not communicated to us during our call, as it would have saved us considerable time and inconvenience. Better communication and customer management during private events would greatly improve the guest experience.

It was a shocking experience wth a hotel having so much of reputation. Looks like it's all hyped only. To my Surprise, the Dining table was trembling due to uneven table legs. Heard a lot about Taj's hospitality; all went in vein that night. How come the Resturant manager didn't notice this. It's a catastrophic error on his part. No one to attend or guide - We were six people and went on a weekend recently. And post having half of the meal I saw waiters serving starters in a similar looking like pans to many. I asked a guest, whether we need order this seperately or part is the buffet. They said it's part of the buffet. The waiter will serve you on your table as the first thing. I was shocked. I asked the restaurant supervisor about the starters and he said you didn't got it Sir ?? I was like what the hell. The lady who was assigned my table then was called and she served it immediately. How can they expect guest to know about it. The mocktail bottle was lying empty in the buffet
