Positive and friendly reception from the start by the lady at the counter. Helpful information and ideas while she's getting the stuff ready. Hope she gets to hear of the good impression she makes. Can't imagine where this idea of substandard coffee comes from unless from some sort of grumpy grudge. Of the three major coffee chains Nero is the best for me for quality of coffee. I like good coffee.

The coffee is not done well at well considering still the premium price. I ordered a regular cappuccino, I feel they don’t have any idea about how to steam well the milk. The staff is nice, but coffee is better the machine made one at Greggs. It’s just foam on top but you won’t get that creamy sensation of the cappuccino done well. Just reviewing here so I can save sometime to someone else! 5 stars because they’re nice, 1 for the coffee! Sorry for this bad review :(

Visited the central Durham Caffè Nero on Tuesday 24th March 2026 and had a genuinely awful experience. There were two staff members behind the counter having a personal conversation with someone who appeared to be off duty. We were left waiting without any acknowledgement, and when we were finally served, the interaction was abrupt and lacking even basic courtesy. What was most concerning was the behaviour while preparing our drinks. The conversation continued throughout, and at one point a teaspoon was thrown across the counter as part of a joke.
